Cuddly Quilts

Meet me, a fun-loving 20-something who makes baby quilts out of her basement. Those who knew me in junior high home economics class would be especially surprised; I was not on the short list to be the next Martha Stewart. Since then, I finished high school, studied zoology at university, communications at college and lived in Israel for a year before returning to Toronto.

The story of the quilts started with Bev. Bev is one of those fantastic ladies with lots of projects, but all with a common theme - helping others. One day, Bev asked me and another fun-loving 20-something, Susan, to help make quilts for Project Linus . I tried explaining to Bev how creatively inept I was, but she would hear no protests. Bev belongs to a Project Linus chapter that makes blankets for children in hospital and shelters. Pretty amazing right? More amazing than that, Bev made a quilter out of me. With great patience and heaps of encouragement, she taught me how to quilt. Eventually, I even started mixing things up a little and going out on some creative limbs - like when I used fabric paint (seasoned quilters shudder at the thought).

Quilting isn't all I do, but it quickly became a favourite pastime and a much needed creative outlet. Eventually, I cleared out some space in my basement, spread out my quilting gear on the old ping pong table and got to work. And so Cuddly Quilts began.
